Ibrahim Mahama: The Harvest Season | Guided Tour
About the Artist

Discover the Foundation Cartier’s new Jean Nouvel-designed home on a guided tour of The Harvest Season (Le Temps des récoltes), the first exhibition of its scope in France dedicated to Ghanaian artist Ibrahim Mahama. Born in Tamale (1987), Mahama rose to prominence with monumental installations in which jute sacks, once used to carry cocoa and charcoal, are stitched together and draped over buildings, reflecting on trade, labour and Ghana’s colonial history. His work has been shown at Documena 14 and the Venice Biennale, and he is the founder of three art institutions in Tamale, including the Savannah Centre for Contemporary Art. For this exhibition, Mahama occupies the entire space with new site-specific installations and reimagined versions of his most iconic works, alongside nine invited artists and collectives. Conceived around the cycle of sowing ideas, sharing knowledge and reaping the fruits of collective efforts, this a chance for members to experience a defining moment on the Paris art scene.
